Energy Summit 2025: Cais Açu Lab makes its presence felt by highlighting the projects developed at the Port of Açu

The Porto do Açu, through its research, development, and innovation ecosystem—Cais Açu Lab—was present at the Energy Summit Global 2025, one of the leading events in energy innovation, promoted by 100 Open Startups in partnership with MIT.

During the event, Cais Açu Lab’s innovation manager, Juliane Carneiro, participated in the panel “Greening the Skies and Seas: Sustainable Fuels for Aviation and Shipping,” alongside representatives from Petrobras, Repsol Sinopec Brasil, and COPPE/UFRJ. The panel was an opportunity to discuss ways to decarbonize the aviation and shipping sectors, central themes on the global energy transition agenda.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the #DACtoSEA initiative, a partnership between the Port of Açu and Repsol Sinopec Brasil, focused on the production of renewable fuels from CO₂ captured directly from the air. The project seeks to apply carbon capture and conversion technologies to sustainable fuels, which will be tested on the port’s own support vessels, closing the carbon cycle in real time.

The panel also addressed:

  • The decarbonization targets for 2030 and 2050;
  • The technical and commercial challenges for making SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) viable;
  • The strategic role of ports as catalysts for energy transition;
  • The importance of research, development, and innovation to drive sustainable solutions.

Simultaneously, the #DACtoSEA project was also mentioned by Jose Javier Salinero Rodriguez, from Repsol Sinopec, in another technical panel, reinforcing the relevance and recognition of the initiative within the event’s program.

In addition, analyst Luisa Quintanilha, also from the Cais Açu Lab team, participated in the Arena stage, presenting a case study in partnership with TideWise, a company in the maritime robotics sector. The presentation highlighted yet another strategic collaboration between the Porto do Açu and innovative solutions focused on sustainability and automation in the port sector.
