On October 22, 2024, the Port of Açu held Conecta Cais, an event aimed at fostering a culture of innovation in the Rio de Janeiro ecosystem and promoting interactions between companies, academia, regional and national ecosystems, promoting development and business.
Organized by the Collective for Action on Innovation and Sustainability (CAIS Açu Lab) and supported by FAPERJ, the event took place in a hybrid format, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., bringing together experts and industry participants for enriching discussions on innovation and sustainability.

CAIS 2024 Award
An award for those who are accelerating the sustainable future with us. At the first event of the Collective for Action in Innovation and Sustainability (CAIS Açu Lab), with the support of FAPERJ, the 1st CAIS Açu Lab Award was also presented.
This award recognizes the work carried out by partner companies that have taken on the challenge of promoting solutions with a positive impact on the maritime-port sector, driven by the port complex. As Juliane Castro Carneiro, innovation coordinator at the Port of Açu, points out: “Our goal is to recognize companies that demonstrate excellence in innovative practices and promote innovation as a catalyst for local sustainable development.”
The winners were evaluated by an independent panel of experts according to criteria of innovation and originality, scalability and replicability, economic viability, environmental impact, social commitment and corporate responsibility, and sustainable governance. Congratulations to UMI SAN Hidrografia e Engenharia, PhDsoft, TideWise, Vast Infraestrutura, Wilson Sons, Zero Esgoto, Ferroport, and Porto do Açu Operações.

Among the highlights was the interview with Professor Newton Pereira, who shared valuable insights on the cooperation between the Fluminense Federal University and Porto do Açu, as well as the special presentation of the ElixSea project, which provided a practical illustration of the functionality of the software being developed with the support of CAIS Açu Lab.
The first edition of Conecta Cais highlighted CAIS Açu Lab’s commitment to innovation and sustainable advancement, promoting a dynamic dialogue between academia, the port sector, and technology.
